Adult volunteers are at the heart of Scouting, and we hope that you will get every bit as much out of it as you put in. Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of adults within the Movement. To support adults in Scouting, the Scout Association provides a comprehensive programme of training to build on existing skills and knowledge and develop new competencies; within the movement there are also awards to recognise dedication to training and outstanding service.
Scout training operates on the ‘LOVE’ principle = Learning Optional, Validation Essential!
So, there may be instances where you have prior experience which means you don’t have to do any additional learning and can move straight to validating a module. In other areas, you may feel you need to learn more before you can successfully ask for a module to be signed off.
You will be allocated a Training adviser who will guide you through the process
There are two levels of training both are modular and flexible and can fit into the modern daily lives we all lead. Learning can be done through e-learning, workbooks, one to one or group sessions, it really depends on what extra learning you need.

Once you have completed the learning (if necessary) for a given module as part of the Adult Training Scheme you need to validate that learning, through discussion with your Training Advisor or Local Training Managers.
