Ranmore Campsite

Dorking District Scouts have our own campsite! Located in 20 acres of woodland on the top of Ranmore, situated in the heart of the North Downs, the campsite was originally used as a base for logging: the remains of the sawmill building can still be seen in the small field. The main body of the campsite is nestled within the woods with a large activity area.

We are in the process of re-developing the site to have more facilities, but currently, as well as a gated car park, campfire circle and chapel, we have 13 patrol sites, four of which have altar fires. There are also two water points, an elsan emptying point and limited toilet facilities. The site also has access to plenty of wood!

With the North Downs Way directly bordering the site to the south, this campsite has great links to other Scout campsites to the east and west of the site, all within half a day’s hike.

The town of Dorking is a five-minute drive down to the bottom of the valley, with the vineyard walks towards the north east of the site; the National Trust house Polesden Lacey is just over an hour’s walk to the north.

The town of Dorking has three train stations, all serviced from London to Horsham and Reading to Gatwick Airport. These stations are around 45 minutes’ walk from the campsite. Ranmore also has mobile phone signal on some networks.

Due to ongoing rent negotiations with the Forestry Commission, we are not currently accepting bookings for AAP/School Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Scout Groups/Units and Guide Troops are still welcome under the terms of our lease.
